Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein has contributed to the reduction of social and economic disparities in the European Economic Area (EEA) ever since it became a member in 1995.
Liechtenstein is a prosperous mountain state with a thriving export-based economy. With a population of 35,600 and an area of 160 square kilometers, it is one of Europe's smallest countries.
The joining of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in 1991 paved the way for Liechtenstein's EEA membership four years later. Through the EEA Agreement, it enjoys access to the internal market under the same rules and conditions as EU member states.
Liechtenstein was and is firmly committed to European integration and solidarity and contributes to the reduction of social and economic disparities in the EEA through the EEA Grants.
